Position Description & Scope
Jamesway is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this role is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and launch of new products and product enhancements.
The successful candidate will drive projects from concept through production, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. This position combines product design, testing, problem-solving, and project leadership within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who is passionate about product development, excels at solving technical challenges, and thrives in a collaborative, continuous improvement culture.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems, including sheet metal, weldments, machined parts, castings, and molded components.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
• Lead product development projects from concept through commercialization.
• Develop solutions that optimize performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Validation & Testing
• Plan and execute product verification and validation activities in collaboration with Quality.
• Build and evaluate prototypes, analyze test results, and implement design improvements.
• Investigate failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Validate product performance in real-world operating conditions, including customer site visits as required.

Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Procurement to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Provide guidance on materials, tolerances, manufacturing methods, and assembly requirements.
• Support pilot builds, product launches, and production issue resolution.
• Participate in DFM/DFA reviews and continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and cost reduction.

Engineering Leadership
• Maintain engineering documentation, specifications, BOMs, and change records within PDM/PLM systems.
• Lead or support technical projects, balancing scope, schedule, quality, and cost objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to support product development and problem solving.
• Mentor junior engineers, designers, and co-op students.
• Contribute to the development of engineering standards, processes, and best practices.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma.
• 7+ years of progressive mechanical design and product development experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, or 10+ years with a Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma.
• Proven experience leading product development projects from concept through production.

Technical Skills
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience preferred.
• Experience designing fabricated, machined, welded, cast, and sheet metal components.
• Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, materials, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Experience with ERP, SAP, PDM, or PLM systems is an asset.
